I decided to start this blog because I wanted a sort of sanctuary where I could talk about Chloe and Jimmy's relationship on Smallville to my hearts content. On a few of the Smallville websites I frequent, I'm one of a very few number of Chloe/Jimmy fans and sometimes I would get the sense that I was talking to myself. So I thought a blog would be ideal.
I thought and thought about what to call it but I finally settled on the title of "Healing Love."
One reason is obviously the magical Chimmy scene from "Gemini." Chloe and Jimmy broke up near the beginning of Season 7 because Chloe couldn't open up to Jimmy about her meteor powers. In "Gemini" on pain of death, Chloe tells Jimmy the truth. He not only accepts her, he kisses her!
Near the end of the episode Chloe tries to downplay the kiss. Jimmy won't let her. They have a conversation about Chloe's secret after which Jimmy says he hopes that she can accept herself. Chloe shows him her meteor power by healing his hand. That moment grabs my heart so tight. It's such a lovely moment of Chloe exposing herself to Jimmy. She gives him this tentative look as she's healing him. Will he run away? What will he do? Jimmy hugs her. He doesn't let on that he's a little shaken by it all. Wonderful. So that's the first reason.
Secondly, I've thought of Chloe's time with Jimmy as a healing time for her. When Chloe and Jimmy first started dating again in "Wither" and the cluster of episodes after that, I thought it would just be a time for Chloe to have fun and go on dates with a guy who adores her. I thought that after a bit of time passed Chloe would outgrow Jimmy and let him down easy.
As time went on it became clear that Jimmy was deeply in love with Chloe. He was so thoughtful and romantic. He was very sensitive to her feelings and desires. By the time I decided to start a blog, Jimmy had proposed to Chloe! What a surprise. Even as I was starting "A Healing Love," I didn't know if Chimmy would last but I thought that Jimmy Olsen was healing her heart.
For so many years Chloe has loved Clark. She's loved him romantically. She's had a school girl crush on him. She's believed in him and had faith in him as a superhero. As his sidekick and brother in arms she's loved him and fought with him against various foes. She's poured so much of herself into Clark Kent. I don't believe that this kind of selflessness ever comes back void. But she never reaped the rewards that she wished for: Clark's romantic love. I think this created a wound of rejection in Chloe's heart.
As much as Clark cares for Chloe, (Post Season 2's "Heat") he never crossed the line of friendship and entered into romantic territory with her. Most of the time he dated Lana Lang. Clark had no doubt that he was in love with Lana, that she was the one, that there relationship was meant to be. Again, wounding Chloe's heart - unintentionally if not completely unawares.
Then comes Jimmy pouring love and attention into Chloe's life. Jimmy shows such care and thoughtfulness toward Chloe; he's always doing special things for her. It seemed to me that Jimmy loved Chloe as much as Clark loved Lana. She was his number one choice. I felt deep down that soaking up Jimmy's TLC, Chloe was healing from all the rejection she felt from Clark over the years. Jimmy's love for Chloe and Chloe's growing love in return has been part of a crucial emotional healing process for Chloe. Maybe it's even been a time of sexual healing for her, who knows? If she's been feeling at all loved as a woman, at all sexy in the past couple of years, it's because of Jimmy Olsen. That's huge.
I'm a long time Chloe Sullivan fan. Once upon a time, for a short time I was a Chlarker. Even after I stopped shipping Clark and Chloe I still held on to hope for Chloe's sake. Chloe has that effect on some fans (myself included). You just want all her dreams to come true. But as time went on I felt that Chloe was giving too much without anything coming back into her life to feed and nurture her. I think that Jimmy Olsen has done that for Chloe in Seasons 6 and 7 and now 8.
Chloe and Jimmy's relationship is most certainly a healing love.
:D

I'm commenting on my own entry. After I posted it I went to chat with a friend about it.
Me: I was writing about Chloe and Jimmy on my blog.
I hadn't posted since October.
I think that Jimmy has helped heal Chloe's broken heart.
As much as she's kind of masochistic and gets off on sacrificing herself for Clark... I think she was heartbroken too.
Borednow: she was
:D
you're right
Me: In Season 2 Helen Bryce tells Lana that she has to decide whether the part Clark is willing to share is better than not having him in her life at all.
I think it applies to Chloe.
Also in Season 2 Lionel scoffs at Chloe "sacrificing her career" for Clark.
Borednow: nods
Me: So in 2 she takes a stand about Clark and Lana in her annoyingly passive aggressive way and it just makes Clark really mad.
Borednow: LOL
Me: If she was passively aggressively saying me or Lana he certainly chose Lana.
Then when she tried to be sophisticated and play real reporter with Lionel she almost lost her friendship with Clark for good.
So it's like... in Season 4 she really decided that she wanted to make amends for seasons 2 and 3.
She put him before her job AND lapped up the crumbs left over from Clana without complaining.
Borednow: sigh
Me: Meanwhile she was sad, lonely, horny, overworked and heartbroken.
Borednow: yeah
it's no fun being someone's pet
Me: So I love that Jimmy was like an Oasis in the desert.
No.
Borednow: He was
someone who loved her
and didn't ask for anything really
Me: not anything!
Borednow: he was just happy with her being her
Me: Her smiles were enough!
Yes!
That's what I love!
Chloe could just rest in his love!
Borednow: and he was supportive of her in anything she wanted to do
Me: He asked NOTHING of her.
Borednow: okay :D
Me: Yes!
Borednow: Okay :D
They would just smile
Me: :D
Borednow: and then she would jump him
Me: heeheehee
Wow talking to you is better than my blog entry... which was kind of sappy.
LOL!
I <3 Chimmy!
Borednow: me too
it won me over
I wasn't all there at first...
I was like

blond chick can stop pining
great
Me: LOL!
Borednow: then it just kept making me laugh
and smile
and then there were just some moment
Me: Jimmy is just magical.
Borednow: moments where I was enjoying myself and wasn't watching for Clois or hoping JM would show up
Me: aw
Borednow: I was just having a great time watching Chimmy
Me: :D
Borednow: like Static...
which everyone bitches about
it makes no sense
but Jimmy was so cute
Me: Chimmy was the best thing about that episode
Borednow: I don't care
Me: He was
:D
Borednow: awww
he's playing with radio parts
he's so cute!
Me: heeheehee
Chloe was so impressed.
Borednow: awww look at Chloe and Jimmy play
awww
nerdy love!
Me: heeheehee
I've been thinking about why I like Chloe/Jimmy since that one mod at Ksite totally hates it.
He's jonesing over Chlark.
sigh
That's great but...
I guess convincing people that Chimmy is worse than Clana makes him feel better.
Borednow: LOL
Me: I don't know if I'll post my feelings about chimmy there now that I've articulated them but...
maybe.
When I think about the idea that Chloe is settling for Jimmy it reminds me of Jane Eyre.
Jane has been in love with old grouchy Rochester the whole book.
She finds out he had a crazy wife locked up in his house too...
Borednow: sigh yeah settling for someone who makes you happier then you've ever been before
Me: YES!
And she's going to marry him at the end of the book.
He's got one good eye and one good hand.
He's like... you delight in
Jane says, "Mr. Rochester. If ever I did a good deed in my life, if ever I thought a good thought, if ever I prayed a sincere and blameless prayer, if ever I wished a righteous wish - I am rewarded now. To be your wife is to be as happy as I can be on earth."
Rochester: Because you delight in sacrifice.
Jane: What do I sacrifice?
Famine for food? Expectation for content? To be privileged to put my arms round what I value? To press my lips to what I love? To repose on what I trust? Is that to make a sacrifice? If so then certainly I delight in sacrifice.
Charlotte Bronte is a little high faluting... as Gilbert Blythe would say but I love it.
Borednow: lol
Me: Rochester: Jane suits me. Do I suit her?
Jane: To the finest fibre of my nature sir.
